First D.Litt to culinary Art in the World

At the age of 81 he received a rare honor from a reputed Indian University. GITAM University one of high ranked university in India presented Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters on Mr.Satyanarayana Bakshi Vemulakonda. Of all the universities of the world, GITAM is the one and only institute awarded this great honor of D.Litt .This is the first D.Litt to culinary art in the World.

Rare Awards


Mr.Bakshi was rewarded with the Dhirubhai Ambani Gold Medal from the Indian Vegetarian Congress, Mumbai on the occasion of conferring the title on him “Viswa Vikhyatha Pakasastra Vetta”. He also compiled a recipe book “ Delicious Diet for Diabetics” for the International Congress of Diabetics at New Delhi in 1996.
Mr.Bakshi was well know for his ‘Live Shows’ at various television networks throughout the world and contributed 365 vegetarian and health discs to ETV in Hyderabad, for the benefit of good food lovers in this country.
CULINARY WIZARD
While the Times of India and Bhavan’s Jornal called him the Culinary Wizard, Tokyo Times rated him as the Chef Extraordinary. National Herald, Hyderabad, has gone a bit further and acclaimed him as the king of Vegetarian Cusine and the Mid Day Bombay described him as Badushah of Cooking. Auckland’s Star, New Zealand commented the “with his meals you don’t miss meat”, attribute for his vegetarian cuisine.

About Dr.Bakshi



-Sri Satyanarayana Bakshi Vemulakonda, an octogenarian and a world renowned CHEF. He was born in Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh on 01-07-2030. He was graduated from Andhra University in Economics and then became a Law graduate from Bombay University. He also did M.A. from the University of Bihar and Masters from the Cornell University, New York State, USA.
Mr.Bakshi served as Sr.Manager, System Food and Beverage Department of Air India for its world-wide operations for nearly a quarter of a century and retired in the year 1988 in the same capacity. Again, 18 years after retirement he joined as Cuisine Advisor of Air India in the year 2005. Mr.Bakshi specialized in the field of vegetarian cuisine, and traveled to 80 nations on the globe, taking part in food festivals, culinary demonstrations, and health food seminars.
During the last 50 years, Mr.Bakshi had the rare distinction of entertaining as many as 20 Bharata Ratnas out of 41 in the Indian social and cultural sphere. Mr.Bakshi has the unique distinction of being the only food expert in the vegetarian and health cuisine field. He produced one hundred and eleven varieties of vegetarian and health sandwiches at a glittering food festival in Mauritius which was attended by thousands of connoisseurs of food. This is a world record and the event has brought a good word from the Queen of England. Mr.Bakshi had trained countless Japanese in the field of vegetarian and health cuisine in Tokyo, Japan. He is the only food expert to hold a food demonstration known as “Food for AIDS” hosted by Bharat Ratna C.Subramanian, the then Governor of Maharastra, for the benefit of medical men, nutritionists and dieticians in the city of Mumbai.
Another feather in the cap of Mr.bakshi is the vegetarian and health food demonstrations and training programmes he conducted for the chefs at George Washington DC. USA, J N Hospital, Mauritius, International Cancer Symposium, Tokyo, Asian Community Centre at Hamiliton, Canada and Jaslok Hopital, Mumbai.
He specialized in vegetarian varieties probably enthused by Albert Einstein, who believed that nothing will benefit human health and increase chances of survival on earth than the vegetarian diet.
